There is a clear lack of motivation for education in the communities that we work with. Children in our area of work are affected the most due to poverty. Most of the children work to make a living so that they can support their parents in meeting their daily needs. Even if some parents want their children to study and be able to get jobs, there are no means to get good education. The public schools are shabby and are not equipped with basic necessities like qualified teaching staff, decent classrooms and playground.
How does RBM deal with Education and Illiteracy
We have established schools in 5 different locations and are providing basic education at a very affordable cost. Some children come from very poor background such that cannot survive without working in the farms, in this case we put the children in the Children home where their daily needs are provided along with Accomodation and sense of love and care.
54 staff members are involved both in teaching and managing the schools. 70% of the children in the school come from economically weak sections of the community. Since the children work in the fields and contribute to the family’s income, it is a challenge to convince the parents to admit the children in the school. However the long term benefits of education is now visible in the society due to the successful careers of some of the pass-out students. RBM strives to provide good school building and facilities to the children.

Karunya means Compasssion in Marathi Language. This school is situated in one of the most remote villages of this region. This village dies not have access to any of the basic facilities like Public transport, telephone connection or clean source of drinking water. Our School in Saldhara village is special in the sense that it is the only high school which is available in the radius of around 20 Kms from here. The medium of instruction in this school is Marathi. We provide residential facilities to some children from remote villages who come to study here. We have around 40 children (both girls and boys ) who live here and study. We choose only the most under privileged children to avail the residential facilities. Some of the children studying in this school would never get a chance to get educated if they were not able to stay here.
